Families 'stranded in India' as flights cancelled into Birmingham

British families are said to be stranded at an airport in India as flights to and from Birmingham have been cancelled, it has been confirmed.

Turkmenistan Airline, which has an office in Smethwick , confirmed flights out of Amritsar, north-west India, have been grounded due to "technical problems".

Concerned Birmingham man Jasvinder Rattu, who has family out in Amritsar, told BirminghamLive : "Please advise on Brits stuck in Amritsar. All flights cancelled. PEOPLE have been stuck there for two days and no confirmation or help given."

He added: "My family are stuck there. Turkmenistan have cancelled all flights and are not giving any aindication on when they can have a flight back to the UK."

A spokesman for Turkmenistan Airline said flights from Amritsar to Birmingham have been cancelled between March 6-10.
