Chandigarh: Loss of baggage cost national carrier Air India Rs 15,000 as it was directed by the district consumer disputes redressal forum.
They were also asked to refund $460 for the lost luggage. Complainant Shakun Singla, a resident of Sector 16, Chandigarh stated that she had to travel from Vancouver to Ahmedabad to attend a seminar from December 8, 2015 to December 22, 2015.
On November 6, 2015 her father booked air tickets from Vancouver to London, London to Delhi and Delhi to Ahmedabad and a return ticket by paying Rs 1.22 lakh. She travelled from Vancouver to London on December 5, 2015 by Air Canada and the next flight to Delhi via Air India was boarded on December 7, 2017.
She then boarded the next Air India flight from Delhi to Ahmedabad. According to the complainant, she was given tag number 466003 and 466004 when she reached at Ahmedabad airport. Shakun waited for her luggage but the same did not arrive on the belt. She was then asked to mention her details in the property irregularity report so that the luggage could be delivered at a later date as the same was not traceable at that moment. It was averred that the luggage tag number 466004 was delivered on December 10, 2015 but another luggage bearing tag number 466003 containing laptop, charger, laptop bag, portable charger, Apple ipad charger and other items worth Rs 88,700 was not delivered to her. Therefore, she sent an email in this regard to Air India Limited, Sardar Vallabh Bhai International Airport, Ahmedabad on December 19, 2015.
It was further argued that the complaint was forwarded to them by the Airport Authority of India vide letter January 6, 2016 but till date, the luggage has not been handed over.
