Get to airport 2 hrs before departure

It is no longer okay to arrive right at the stipulated 45 minutes before departure at the Kempegowda International Airport.
With extra screening measures having been put in place following the recent military stand-off between India and Pakistan, resulting in long queues at the airport, it would be useful to reach at least two hours before even if you are taking a domestic flight. Post the February 26 aerial strikes on Balakot, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) had issued a circular to all airports including KIA on March 3 to be on Red Alert.
BCAS, in its circular, had pointed out 20 measures to be taken up by the airport authorities, airlines, security agencies to enhance the security at airports, which also included pat down searches. In addition to this, some flyers have been asked to take off their shoes, wallets, belts, metallic objects, mobile phones by the security agencies before they pass through the metal detectors.
“Sometimes handheld metal detectors or the door frame metal detectors may sound an alarm if shoes, belts or wallets contain metal. The security personnel would then insist that the passenger remove his shoes, belts or wallets and place it on a tray for further screening,” sources said.
