It’s official! Indore is state’s first international airport

Indore: Customs commissionerate has approved and notified Indore airport making it the first international airport of the state. Ensuring smooth operations and comfortable passenger services, infrastructure and manpower are being put in place ahead of the first overseas flight scheduled in April. Air India has announced first international flight from Indore to Sharjah likely in April.
Customs commissioner Neerav Kumar Mallick said, “Indore airport has been declared as an international airport and first flight is scheduled in April for Sharjah. Before international service starts, lot of things has to be put in place such as custom office, immigration centre and segregation area among others.”

Customs commissionerate Indore has notified places for loading and unloading of goods at Indore international airport. According to the Airport Authority of India, final schedule for international flight is still awaited from airlines and most likely the first flight will take off in first week of April.

As part of preparations, a separate space is being located to put up customs office, customs counter, immigration counter and area that will separate domestic and international passengers.

Separate entry and exit passages and luggage segregation points for domestic and international flight are being planned to avoid overlapping.
Mallick said, “My staff has to be in place at airport. Initially we will put skeleton staff because its’ just a single flight. We have segregated international area and it is with us now.”
