Mohali: Police caught a Canadian NRI while allegedly trying to smuggle 29,100 Canadian dollars worth Rs 15
lakh approximately at the Chandigarh international airport on Monday.
Harmohan Singh arrived from Delhi in an IndiGo Airlines flight. He was to visit his relatives residing in Sector 38 Chandigarh.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) H S Bal said, “We had specific information regarding a man on board Indigo Airlines flight from Delhi carrying undisclosed Canadian currency. When the flight reached Chandigarh and the person de-boarded, he was detained and asked to disclose if he had undisclosed money in possession. When he refused, he was frisked and police found 10,000 Canadian Dollars from his pocket and 19,100 Canadian Dollars hidden inside his vest. The Income Tax department was informed, and the seized cash was handed over to them for further action.”
