AAI revises parking charges at Visakhapatnam airport

Visakhapatnam: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has issued a circular on Thursday regarding the revised parking charges for vehicles entering the Visakhapatnam airport. It would come into effect from the midnight of April 30.
In order to reduce unnecessary bottlenecks outside the parking area, vehicles will not be allowed to wait on the pathway in front of the terminal for more than three minutes and the airport staff would monitor the time taken by vehicles to drop the passengers and luggage. As per the circular, issued by AAI-Visakhapatnam, the 10-minute free parking window has been abolished. However, no access fee would be levied for vehicles entering and leaving the airport for just pick up and drop. Any vehicle found waiting on the pathway in front of the terminal longer than the time alotted will be first directed to the parking lot, if the driver were to disagree and argues, a fine of Rs 3,000 would be imposed.
Speaking to TOI, Visakhapatnam airport director G Prakash Reddy, said, “We are not charging anything for entry and exit of vehicles to and from the airport who come to drop or pick up passengers and no time is calculated at entry or exit points for these vehicles. However, our staff would be present around the pathway leading to the terminal to assist and ensure that vehicles do not queue up or unnecessarily wait there blocking the lanes or obstructing movement of other vehicles. It would hardly take two-three minutes for passengers to get down or get into the car along with their luggage. If some passengers and drivers want to take longer time, say around 15-20 minutes or longer, they can wait in the parking lot and depending on the time spent on waiting, charges would be levied from Rs 20-Rs 165 for cars and Rs 10-Rs 45 for two-wheelers.”
