Ammunition found in TDP leader’s bag at Tirupati airport

Tirupati: Airline security staff of SpiceJet were taken aback when they found 20 rounds of ammunition in a passenger’s check-in baggage at Tirupati airport on Saturday.
According to sources, passengers heading to Hyderabad and Varanasi on SpiceJet flight SG 708 were checking-in their baggage at Tirupati airport at around 2 pm when airline security staff found 20 rounds of ammunition in a passenger's baggage. After isolating the passenger, the flight departed as per its schedule .
The passenger, who identified himself as Sainadha Sarma, is a local Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader from Kamalapuram in Kadapa district. He told airline security and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) staff that he owned a licensed weapon that he surrendered to Kadapa district police wing in view of the elections but had the ammunition with him.
He also told airport security and staff that he did not know how the ammunition that he left at home came into his baggage, but confirmed that it belonged to him.
