IT expects to take off when 24x7 airport lands

Mohali: The international airport must connect with the US, Europe, China, and Korea for the local information technology industry to spread its wings.

Once the Chandigarh International Airport starts operating 24x7, business delegates from global hubs of the industry will have direct access to the region. Industry associations say that the city’s lack of international connectivity prevents big opportunities from coming to this part of the country. Flight time is a big discouragement for potential investors, who are busy individuals.
From April 10, the airport is likely to start working 24x7, going by what the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has promised the Punjab and Haryana high court. Mohali Industry Association former president Sanjeev Vashisht said: “Since inception, the airport was without three primary factors—24x7 operation, runway length, and CAT-ILS-III system for night landing. Now that it has these three things, the government is left with no excuse for keeping foreign airlines from Chandigarh. It will take the local IT business from Rs 9,000 crore to Rs 30,000 crore a year.”

Industrialists say that allday direct air flights to the western and South East Asian countries will bring in potential investors and collaborators from the US, Europe, China, and Korea.
