AAI takes over space given to Jet Airways

Chennai: Close to a month after Jet Airways suspended operations, AAI has started to take over the counters, office space, kiosks and other space provided to the airline at Chennai airport.
An official said the grounded aircraft will be moved to an unsed area of the airport so that the parking bays can be used for planes of other airines. “The airline is not working. We have already taken over space inside the terminal. Seven planes that are parked at the bays will be towed to a corner so that the airline or the lessors can take them when they want,” he added.
The grounded planes were parked after their service was over at the designated parking bays. Though Chennai was not a base for the airline, they used to park planes.
Jet Airways has grounded seven planes — five ATR planes, one B-777 and one B737 — at the airport.
He said a decision on allotting the flying slots used by the airline to other airlines will be taken by the DGCA. The airline had many early morning slots from Chennai. A few have already been given to SpiceJet on Chennai-Mumbai route. The airport lost almost 70flights in summer after Jet Airways suspended operations and SpiceJet grounded its B737 Max 8 planes.
