Chennai: Customs officials at Chennai international airport have detected a new form of concealment of gold.
On Tuesday morning, the officials intercepted Vasanth Jay Raj, 25, of Madurai, who arrived here from Sharjah in an Air India flight. When his checked-in baggage was examined, one circular gold ingot concealed ingeniously in a bluetooth speaker, one gold strip concealed in a hair dryer, two gold strips concealed in a hair straightener and six gold links concealed in three wrist watches were found. They weighed 232 gram and were worth Rs 7.7 lakh.
On Monday night, Sri Lankan lady passenger Fathima Bathul, 43, who arrived here from Colombo in an Air India flight was searched. The search yielded four gold cut bits weighing 154 gram and valued at Rs.5 lakh. They were concealed in her rectum.
