Vijayawada: The Vijayawada international airport is set to reach another milestone on Sunday, when it will get daily flight services between Vijayawada and Mumbai.
The daily direct flight to Mumbai has been a long pending demand and business circles had submitted representations regarding this earlier. SpiceJet has come up with the service.
The airport has registered a double-digit growth in last five years in terms of passenger traffic. The Air India Express has been operating a three-day per week Vijayawada-Mumbai direct flight service and it records about 90 per cent occupancy. With increased demand, prices for the service also shot up to Rs 12,000 during weekends which was too much of a pocket pinch.
SpiceJet is likely to run the services on Boeing 737 jets which have a capacity of 168 seats. The base fare of the ticket has been fixed at Rs 4,500 by the operator which is attracting the business circles.
