How city airport tests your patience and mathematics

Confusion and chaos prevail over car parking charges at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
Airports Authority of India (AAI), which operates the airport, has displayed car parking fee in slabs of Rs 30 for first 30 minutes, followed by Rs 85 up to 120 minutes. However, at the exit booth of the parking lots visitors are charged Rs 115 instead of Rs 85 for parking up to 120 minutes.
AAI authorities defend the parking charge by saying that Rs 30 (for 30 minutes) is added to Rs 85 (up to 120 minutes) to arrive at the grand total of Rs 115 for parking the car for more than 30 and less than 120 minutes. Call it communication gap or an anomaly, several visitors end up arguing about the correct figure with exit booth operators.
At times, the arguments are heated and consume several minutes, causing long queue of vehicles. Ahmedabad ‘model’ different than others AAI has clearly displayed its Ahmedabad airport parking charges on its website and at several spots in the parking lots including the collection booths.
When Mirror sought clarity from Ahmedabad Airport Director Manoj Gangal, he refused to comment on the issue. When Mirror checked at Mumbai and Delhi airports, officials there said parking fee is collected as per slabs mentioned and no addition is needed to be done. Nodal officer at the domestic terminal of Mumbai Airport said, “The parking fee is Rs 130 for first 30 minutes and Rs 200 between 30 and 120 minutes. We don’t collect Rs 330 (Rs 200+Rs130) for parking up to 120 minutes.”
