IndiGo set to start flight ops from Gaya airport

Gaya: Conceding the request of budget carrier IndiGo for space at Gaya airport to begin its operation, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has allotted specified area on the apron as well as terminal building to the airlines.
Confirming the allotment of space, Gaya airport director Dilip Kumar said, “Space has been earmarked for its ticket counter, check- in counter, back-up office and ground handling work. IndiGo is the first domestic operator from the private sector to get such a facility at Gaya airport.

Till now, Air India has been operating its lone domestic flight A- 433 daily on the Gaya-Varanasi-Delhi route. Besides Air India, some foreign airlines including those from Thailand, Sri Lanka and Myanmar operate flights between Gaya and their respective capitals in the peak tourist season (October-March). Asked about the time required by IndigGo to complete the pre-operation formalities, airport director Dilip said things will be clear once the airlines takes possession of the facility provided for conducting its operations.
Earlier, IndiGo teams conducted a survey on the business and safety aspects of their proposed operations. “If everything goes as per plan, IndiGo is likely to start its operations from August,” said the director.

Asked about the route on which IndiGo will operate from Gaya, the airport director said the airline is yet to submit details of its proposed operation. According to sources, besides operating on the Gaya-Delhi, Gaya-Mumbai and Gaya-Bangalore, IndiGo may also operate at least one international flight for the Buddhist countries.
