Jet Airways grounded due to ‘internal scams’, says AIJOSA president Kiran Pawaskar

Nearly a fortnight after Jet Airways ceased its operations, All India Jet Airways Officers and Staff Association (AIJOSA) president Kiran Pawaskar on Wednesday alleged an internal scam could be the reason why the airline suffered.

Pawaskar told Jansatta.com, “It is being shown that the company is bankrupt. However, during a meeting with the top management, the reasons which the company has given are unacceptable. Flights were flying full and the cargo business was thriving, despite this, the company says they don’t have money. Where did all the earnings go? I suspect that Jet Airways has suffered because of an internal scam.”
The association’s president said he was “lucky” to get paid till February but many others have salaries pending for over six months. “The airline closed its operations on April 17 but its condition was bad since January. Staff were not getting their salaries. In fact, the pilots and the engineers were getting disturbed salaries for the past six months. I am lucky that I got my salary for February. The company stopped paying its staff completely from March,” he said.

Questioning how the company, which once operated 119 aircraft, was grounded within a span of just one-and-a-half months, Pawaskar said, “This might be the only such case in the World.”

The association is taking out a protest march today.

After months of uncertainty, Jet Airways announced a temporary suspension of its operations on April 17 as it failed to receive emergency funds from lenders. A day after the airline suspended operations, hundreds of employees gathered in the national capital seeking measures to revive the carrier, which has been in operation for nearly 26 years.
