SBFAC intensifies demand for Bhopal-Kolkata flight

Bhopal: Members of Support Bhopal for Air connectivity (SBFAC) wrote letters to airlines and airport officials to connect the Raja Bhoj airport with North-Eastern part of the country in general and Kolkata especially. The city and the people had been suffering because of poor air connectivity for years.
“Around 60,000 people of West Bengal, many of Odisha and other places of North Eastern states are living in the capital and could prove to be a feasible route for airlines. But lack of air-connectivity forces them to travel by train, which make the journey very long, so the issue must be addressed”, group admin of Facebook page of SBFAC, Prachi Baluapuri, said. The members of the group tweeted for more than 10,000 times demanding Bhopal-Kolkata flight in last one month.
Also, the train connectivity from Bhopal to Kolkata is also not very good at present with only four direct trains in a week. “We have checked the railway reservation availability till June, but there is no reservation available as of now to either Patna or Kolkata. I have received many queries regarding air connectivity. Flyers are present but airlines services are not there,” said member of SBFAC Tushar Kulkarni.
Interestingly, after the number of flight increased from the Bhopal airport, the daily footfall also increased from 500 to 2000.
“Whether it is Bengaluru, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, the flights have been fully packed. Similarly, it will benefit if flight to Kolkata gets started from Bhopal,” said Kulkarni.
Flyers are very keen to connect Bhopal with Kolkata and also approached me, airport director Anil Vikram said.
