Allahabad gets direct air connectivity to Kolkata and Raipur

Allahabad: Allahabad started maiden Kolkata-Allahabad-Raipur flight on Friday. Operated by Indigo the daily flight would take just around two hours to complete the journey which takes around 24 hours by train for these two destinations.

Airport Authority of India, along with Bengali Social & Cultural Association, Allahabad, presented a cultural event at the Bamrauli civil enclave. All the Allahabad bound passengers on the inaugural flight were welcomed in the arrival lounge by UP minister for civil aviation and stamps Nand Gopal Gupta, Nandi. Bangla Tagore songs followed by solo dance to the tune were presented in the arrival lounge by artistes of BSCA.

Speaking to the media at the event, marking the inauguration of the air connectivity to Kolkata and Raipur, the minister said that following the decision of the Centre and the state, nine zonal headquarters of the state are being connected with the state capital. “The airport at Hindan and Bareilly have been dedicated to the nation and the state government has sanctioned funds worth Rs 200 crore for the airport at Faizabad," said the minister.
He also assured that after the pulling out of Jet Airways from various routes from the city, talks are on with other service providers and soon air connectivity to cities like Lucknow, Patna, Nagpur etc would be restored, this time by operators like IndiGo or Air India.
