Arunachal to expedite Greenfield Airport project at Hollongi

Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet on Sunday decided to impress upon the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation to expeditiously complete the Greenfield Airport at Hollongi, near here, at the earliest before the deadline of 42 months set by the Airport Authority of India (AAI).

The Cabinet decided to request the ministry to constitute a project monitoring committee under the chairmanship of Union Secretary of Civil Aviation with State’s Chief Secretary as one of the members among others in order to ensure time-to-time monitoring of the project so that it is completed before the scheduled deadline, an official communiqué informed here on Monday. The decades-old dream of having an airport in the State capital could be realized through a consistent effort by Khandu and his Team Arunachal members who significantly reduced the relief and rehabilitation cost and also finalised the permanent site and convinced the Centre for sanctioning the dream project.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the ambitious project on February 9 this year. The airport once built would see landing of A-320 series aircraft, which would also have cargo facilities.
