Dy Mayor Dhende questions airport pickup charges

In a case of civic malpractice, Siddharth Dhende, Deputy Mayor of Pune, has alleged that the pickup charges levied on vehicles that come to the Pune airport are unfair and a total loot carried out by the airport authority.
He has demanded that the Airport Authority of India withdraw all the charges which are being imposed at present.
MP Girish Bapat too has stated that the issue will be taken up in the next meeting. Any person visiting Pune airport has to pay Rs 50 as pickup charges as per the decision implemented since March 2019. Even after the charges are paid, if the vehicle does not cross the premises within three minutes and the vehicle is not in the specified parking area, then an additional fine of Rs 340 is levied. Apparently the deputy mayor had to suffer due to this rule during his recent visit to the airport. Claiming that it is impossible for an individual to cross the area in the specified time period, Dhende has now written to the airport authorities and Bapat, who will be taking over as the chairperson of the airport advisory committee.
In the letter, Dhende has stated, “Every day almost 30,000 people travel to and fro from Pune airport. But the area of the airport has not been expanded to keep pace with the increased traffic. Despite this, every vehicle crossing the area is being made to pay Rs 50 as pickup charges. Even if a person just sits in the car, the said amount is levied on him or her. If that vehicle remains in the premises for more than 3 minutes, then additional amount is to be paid. Considering the current situation at prevailing at the airport, I request you to withdraw these charges with immediate effect.”
