Indore: We had the promise. Now we have the date. Air India on Monday announced that the first international flight from Indore — to Dubai — will take off on July15.
The announcement comes hardly three weeks after Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport of Indore received immigration clearance from the home ministry.
The airline has already started taking bookings for the inaugural flight, and over a dozen people booked tickets within the first six hours.
The flight — an Airbus A320 with 162 seats — is likely to take off from Indore on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and the return one from Dubai is on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. From Indore, flight AI-903 will take off at 04.40pm and reach Dubai at 07.50pm IST on Mondays and Wednesdays. On Saturdays, it has a takeoff slot of 3.35pm, and will land in Dubai at 6.45pm. The flight, AI 904 will fly from Dubai at 4.40pm (3.30pm IST), and reach Indore at 9.20pm on all three days. “This is a tentative schedule, and it may change before commencement of flight operations,” said the airline.
Air India local station officials said the flight timings have been scheduled to attract passengers not only from Indore, but from cities connected to Indore. “Passengers from Raipur, Nagpur and Goa would earlier have to go to Mumbai to take a flight to Dubai. Now, they will save time by coming to Indore,” said an official.
