Flight to Bareilly misses deadline, officials clueless

Bareilly: After Jet Airways, the airline which had won the bid to operate 70-seater commercial aircraft from Bareilly, grounded all its aeroplanes, a new player, Trustar, managed to bag a fresh bid in April and announced that it would start commercial operations from June 15, but in vain — the deadline was missed again.
Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials, on the other hand, appeared clueless when asked about the commencement of flights from the city.

Interestingly, Union minister and local MP Santosh Gangwar had inaugurated the airport in a haste hours before the imposition of the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections on March 10.

In April, a team of Turbo Aviation Pvt Ltd had visited the newly-built airport and after taking stock of arrangements, Turbo’s manager, operations, PV Ravi Shankar said the aviation firm would start flight operations from here on June 15.

Shankar had told TOI that they had obtained the permission from the civil aviation department of the UP government as well as the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to start operation of flights under regional connectivity scheme for six destination from Lucknow in UP.

In the first phase, they had planned daily flights to Bareilly, Prayagraj, Varanasi and Agra. Except Bareilly, all the three airports are operational. “Our flights will operate under the brand name ‘Trustar’,” he said.
