Indore’s Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar airport gets the ‘international’ tag

Of late, Indore’s Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar airport seems to have a lot of things going for it. Only recently, it was announced that a new aerobridge would be built at the airport- to facilitate more convenient boarding on to the aircraft. Finally, the latest delightful news comes as the fact that the Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport has been granted the title of an ‘international’ airport.

The revelation that Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar airport will now see international flights came on 29th May, 2019, along with an official statement. The statement read “In pursuance of sub-rule (b) of rule 3 of the Passport (Entry into India) Rules, 1950, the Central Government hereby designates Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport, Indore of Madhya Pradesh State as an authorized Immigration Check Post for entry into/exit from India with valid documents for all classes of passengers.”

The airport itself had received World Standardisation Certification and validation from the UK a few years back. The new change comes as a very important one because Indore airport happens to be the busiest and most frequented airport in all of central India, let alone Madhya Pradesh. In fact, in March 2018, the airport also began round the clock flight services to keep the city accessible at all times.
