Mangaluru: Customs nab passenger with gold hemmed in jeans

Mangaluru: Alert customs officials at Mangaluru International Airport yet again thwarted ingenious way by a flier to smuggle in gold on Tuesday.

Mangaluru customs officials, in a tweet, stated that 24-karat gold of foreign origin in powder/paste form weighing 131.700gm was seized from a passenger who arrived from Dubai by an Air India Express flight IX 384. The gold seized is valued at Rs 4.37 lakh.
Customs officials stated that the gold was hemmed in the ankle of the jeans the passenger was wearing.

Incidentally, on June 8, customs officials had nabbed a passenger who had attempted to smuggle 647 gram of 24-karat gold valued at Rs 21.48-lakh.


The gold was concealed in the form of paste in specially stitched pocket inside the under garment of the passenger who was was subsequently arrested.
