Memorial for Air India victims on Sunday, June 23; RCMP says bombing investigation ongoing (update)

A memorial for Air India bombing victims will be held on Sunday, June 23 at 6:30 p.m. in Vancouver’s Stanley Park’s Ceperley Playground area.

The bombing of Air India Flight 182 on June 23, 1985, off the coast of Ireland killed 329 people, and the Narita airport explosion in the luggage meant for another Air India plane in Japan on the same day killed two baggage handlers.

RCMP Sgt. Janelle Shoihet told The VOICE on Tuesday: “The Air India investigation is ongoing and currently undertaken by the E Division Integrated National Security Enforcement Team.”
She added: “The RCMP is still seeking any assistance from members of the public, especially the members of the Sikh community who may have information that will advance the investigation. While the terrorist attack on the Air India flight took place over 30 years ago, we remain committed to holding those responsible accountable.”
