PMC land to pave way for new parking facility at Pune airport

Pune: The corporation will provide 10 acres of land to the airport authorities for shifting the parking slot number-1 to pave the way for the construction of the multi- storeyed facility to keep vehicles.
After a meeting with the Pune municipal commissioner on the issue on Thursday, deputy mayor Siddharth Dhende said a plot of land measuring around 10 acres and located near the parking number-1 of the airport had been identified. He said it would be provided to the airport authorities soon.

Pune municipal commissioner Saurabh Rao and the officials related to land acquisition within the civic body did not respond to the calls from TOI.

Dhende told TOI, “The Pune airport director had raised this issue in the meeting I had with him. The matter requires quick action because the expansion plan of the airport is impressive. The municipal commissioner has directed his officials to immediately start work so that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in Pune get the land quickly.”
The deputy mayor added, “According to the norms, no construction or development can happen on that plot because it is very close to the airport. Based on the meeting with the Pune municipal commissioner, instructions have gone to the authorities of the civic body to get that land and provide it to the airport authorities without any delay. We do not think that acquisition of that plot will be an issue. Once the plot is given to the AAI, they can shift the parking lot number-1 there and start the construction of the multi-level parking facility.”
