Spurned man held for making calls to airport

Hubballi: For two years, a ringing phone was one of the most dreaded things in the offices of Hubballi airport. A spurned lover had discovered his ex worked there and made incessant calls to every number associated with the airport, troubling staffers with demands to talk to her.
Police have finally arrested him for the nuisance after a search spanning two states, Karnataka and Goa. Roy Dais, 34, was detained at Goa airport as he tried to complete immigration formalities earlier this week. He worked as a mechanic with a motorcycle firm in Kuwait and made calls through the internet.

Roy, a native of Goa, has been brought to Hubballi and remanded in judicial custody.

Inspector Dileep Nimbalkar of Gokul police in Hubballi said on Thursday a lookout notice was issued against Roy after the airport staff sent complaints, alleging he made repeated calls to reach the woman and used abusive language when they refused to transfer the call. Roy allegedly even rang up the airport director and a line of the Air Traffic Control (ATC), disturbing officers engaged in a critical task.

It was not immediately clear on Thursday how he obtained these numbers. A few months ago, Roy allegedly also started bothering offices of airlines at the airport and the fire brigade. As the calls were made through an online service, authorities could not pinpoint his location.
