Air India gets slot, but will not operate Pune-Singapore flight

Pune: Air India will not start operations on the Pune-Singapore route despite being offered a slot by the civil aviation ministry.
“At present, there are no plans to start a Pune-Singapore flight. We used to operate on the sector around seven years ago,” a senior Air India official said.

“Air India has recently started operations on many domestic as well as international routes, such as to Nairobi. The airline is prioritising the sectors it is keen to operate on and it seems that Pune is not on a priority,” a source said.

The ministry has provided empty international slots of Jet Airways to destinations like Dubai and Singapore on a temporary basis to Air India and its subsidiaries.

The Pune-Singapore sector had been on the radar of a few airlines. Sources told TOI that Vistara had evinced interest in the sector. "Talks had almost been finalised but Jet suddenly came into the picture and got the Pune-Singapore flight, resulting in Vistara backing off. Whenever Vistara considers international operation, it will surely consider a flight on the sector," S.K Jain, former chairman of Marhatta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) and former chairman of MCCIA's civil aviation committee, told TOI in an earlier talk.
