Brazilian man arrested with Rs 20 crore cocaine at Mumbai airport

Mumbai: In one of the biggest seizures so far this year, a Brazilian was caught trying to smuggle in around 4 kg of cocaine worth Rs 20 crore at Mumbai airport on Monday.
The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of customs arrested Rodrigo Dos Santos Alves, 33, from Sao Paulo when they found two packets of white powder, purportedly cocaine, in transparent polythene pouches wrapped around his body with adhesive tapes.
When Alves arrived from Sao Paulo via Addis Ababa, he was asked if he was carrying any drugs. Alves, dressed in a sweatshirt, replied in the negative, but the official insisted on a body search, which revealed the drug.
He was arrested and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Pyschotrophic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Last week, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Mumbai, had arrested a 24-year-old Venezuelan at the Mumbai airport for trying to smuggling in cocaine worth Rs 3 crore concealed on her body.
