Chennai-Madurai IndiGo flight diverted to Madurai due to strong wind

Madurai: A Chennai - Tuticorin IndiGo flight was diverted to Madurai on Tuesday due to strong wind. The flight was diverted to Madurai minutes before it was to land at Tuticorin airport.
The IndiGo flight, which took off from Chennai at 10.25am, was scheduled to land at Tuticorin at 12.05pm.

Officials in Tuticorin airport said as the wind speed was gusting up to 55 km per hour, it was not safe for the plane to land at Tuticorin. There were 61 passengers onboard.

The passengers deplaned at Madurai airport. Later, alternative arrangements were made for the passengers to reach Tuticorin.

As a result of the diversion of the flight, the return flight from Tuticorin was cancelled. The return flight was to take off at 4.50pm and reach Chennai 6.50pm. This affected the schedule of passengers as many of them had connecting flights from Chennai.
