New Delhi: Pilots of Air India have asked the management to either clear their salary dues or waive off the mandatory six-months’ notice period for those of them wishing to leave. The divestment-bound airline does not have funds to pay salaries beyond October unless equity infusion takes place from either the current (government) or a new owner.
“While all employees have received their 100% pay, we the pilots are yet to receive 70% of our pay package. There is no information to pilots for delay in (paying) flying allowance (that accounts for a lion’s share of crew pay)… While we understand financial condition of AI, we fail to understand officials’ decision to draw their own salaries in full and not pay pilots and cabin crew. This discrimination is unacceptable,” Indian Commercial Pilots’ Association (ICPA, union of erstwhile Indian Airlines’ pilots) has written to the airline management on Tuesday.
A senior AI official said the flying allowance will be paid by Saturday.
An AI spokesman said, “all the issues are (being) looked at sympathetically.”
