Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport: Flight Count Down But Footfall Up

Indore: Passenger footfall at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in May has gone up by more than 10 per cent despite number of flights witnessing a sharp decline.
Around 2,52,131 passengers travelled to and from Indore airport in May 2019 as compared to 2,28,874 passengers in May 2018.

Passengers’ footfall has increased by 23,257 in May this year as compared to the same month last year, according to a survey by Airport Authority of India (AAI).

This increase was witnessed even after decline in number of flights operating to and from Indore airport. Daily scheduled flights at the airport, which was over 90 last year, have come down to 58. Airport officials said that this increase was witnessed due to movement of non-scheduled flights in May this year. “There was increase in non-scheduled flight movement in May due to Lok Sabha elections, which added to increase in monthly passenger footfall,” they said.

AAI’s report of the quarterly survey conducted from April to June 2019 shows an increase 87,992 passengers as compared to the same period last year.

Around 7,76,367 passengers travelled to and from Indore airport between April and June 2019 as compared to 6,88,375 passengers between April and June 2018.
