New Delhi: The Congress on
Tuesday accused the Government of
weakening the airport regulator instead of
strengthening it, which would result in
aviation becoming a costly affair.
Initiating discussion in the Rajya Sabha on
the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority
of India (Amendment) Bill, 2019, Vivek
Tankha of the Congress said,’’ while other
countries are trying to strengthen the regulators, this government is curtailing them. By taking
away a regulator, you are opening the airports to private operators .’’
Noting that the Bill reduced the number of ‘major airport’ to 13, Mr Tankha expressed fear that aviation would be a costly affair now since most small airports are managed by private players . ‘’It is a Bill which will enter into the pockets of 344 million people who travel by air.,’’Tankha said.
