Nearly 5 lakh flew between Mumbai and Bangkok last fiscal

Mumbai: Over four lakh passengers travelled between Mumbai and Bangkok in the last fiscal year. With a slew of new flights to be launched in the next month, the numbers are only set to rise - not just to Bangkok, but to other south east Asian destinations as well.
The Jet Airways closure in April released over 280 slots at the congested airport. It has been a boon to airlines, especially fast-expanding, low-cost airlines as they no longer need to wait for the Navi Mumbai airport to connect Mumbai to medium and short haul international destinations in south east Asia and the Middle East.
A total of 4,88,538 passengers (669 per day, each way) travelled between Mumbai-Bangkok-Mumbai in the fiscal year 2018-19, said an international airport spokesperson, adding there are 24 daily flights between Mumbai and southeast Asian countries. A number of airlines announced launch of flights to Bangkok and Singapore in the next month.
