Pune airport’s runway re-carpeting to be carried out only after October

Pune: The re-carpeting work of the runway at Pune airport will be taken up after October and a contractor has been finalized for the job, sources from the airport said.
The actual work will begin during the winter schedule. Sources said the preliminary work related to the project, including logistics support, was set to start at the airport soon.

“The Airports Authority of India (AAI) or the Indian Air Force (IAF) still have to announce the details of how and when the work will be carried out. The project is mainly IAF’s and we have heard some preparations have started,” an airline representative told TOI.

Specific queries on the topic were sent to the IAF through the defence public relations officer almost two weeks ago, but a reply is still awaited.

“Sourcing of equipment for the job has begun. Before the actual work on the runway starts, some other works will be initiated in the airside by the IAF. According to information, a special schedule can be created during the winter schedule which starts from October 25 and goes on till March 30 next year,” a source from the airport said.
