SVPI told to study anti-bird strategies

Ahmedabad: Authorities of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad have been asked to study the bird-hit mitigation measures undertaken by other national and international airports.
Mitigating incidents of bird strikes was one of the key issues discussed during the Airport Environment Management Committee (AEMC) meeting held at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport in Ahmedabad on Monday. Representatives of Airports Authority of India (AAI), Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and city police department were present in the meeting along with additional chief secretary (ACS), environment and forests, of the government of Gujarat, Rajiv Gupta.
“The ACS asked the airport authorities to study the measures taken by other national and international airports and the technology they have adopted to successfully keep bird strike incidents under check and accordingly, prepare a report on its implementation at the SVPI airport,” said a senior official on condition of anonymity.
Earlier this year, AAI had outsourced a study on bird sightings on the SVPI airport campus to Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) in Chennai.
