AAI teams inspects airstrip in Palakurthi

Peddapalli: A team of officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), New Delhi, inspected an airstrip near Basanthnagar in Palakurthi mandal on Thursday to assess the feasibility for building an airport.
The team members — AAI Nodal Officer Neeraj Gupta and Assistant General Manager Kumar Vaibhav — examined the boundaries of the 35-acre airstrip.
The team will prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) on the possibilities of establishing an airport and submit it to AAI. Besides climatic conditions, commercial connectivity and other aspects would also be studied.
The officials said they will submit the DPR to AAI along with all details, including the feasibility for establishing airport. Surveys are being undertaken at six places in Telangana.
Collector A Sri Devasena examined Basanthnagar Airstrip on March 21, 2018. Based on the State government’s instructions, she visited the old airport and examined the runway, structures and documents of land available in the surrounding areas.
