Bhagalpur: Air India women cabin crew will soon wear apparels, including saris, made of Bhagalpuri tussar silk.
Sources in Resham Bunkar Khadi Gramodyog Sangh (RBKGS), Bhagalpur, said a proposal in this regard from Khadi and Village Industries Corporation (KVIC) was recently approved by Air India. KVIC is a nodal agency of the Union ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises for promotion of khadi and other village industries.

Accordingly, Bhagalpuri tussar silk saris and stoles will be given to all women employees, including cabin crew and ground staff of Air India.

“Air India recently entered into an agreement with KVIC for procuring Bhagalpuri tussar silk for their flight attendants and ground staff. Besides silk attires for women, Air India is also contemplating to make its male employees wear waistcoats made of Bhagalpuri silk. We are supposed to send samples to KVIC by August 14, which in turn, will send them to Air India. Regular supply of apparels made of Bhagalpuri silk will commence following approval of the samples,” RBKGS secretary Alim Ansari told this newspaper on Monday.
