'Bikini airline' VietJet to connect Delhi with Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh from December

New Delhi: The “bikini airline” — nickname earned by Vietnamese budget airline VietJet for having cabin crew dressed in bikini on some flights in the past — is going to start India flights now. It will launch Delhi-Ho Chi Minh City as a four times a week from December 6. The Delhi-Hanoi route will start as thrice weekly from December 7. “To celebrate the launch, the airline is offering super-saving tickets priced Rs 9 onwards, during its three ‘golden days’ — a special promotion by the airline from August 20 to 22, 2019,” VietJet said in a statement.
The airline, which started flying in December 2011, has made headlines in the past for having stewardesses dressed in bikinis on some flights. Last January, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) had fined VietJet for having bikini-clad models on a special flight that was flying home Vietnam’s under-23 football team from the Asian Cup in China.
Since the Indian aviation regulator has often pulled up desi airlines for their crew in regular uniform organising song and choreographed dance events onboard aircraft on special days, it is unlikely VietJet’s India flights will see crew in dresses that earns the budget airline its unique nickname. However, the airline did not say if that will or won’t happen.
The Ho Chi Minh route will operate on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The Hanoi flights will be on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
