Cial operations put off till Sunday evening

Kochi/Thiruvananthapuram: Flight operations at the Cochin International Airport Limited (Cial) will continue to be suspended till Sunday evening as water from Chengalthodu canal that flows along the airport’s boundary wall entered the runways after the Periyar River swelled up.

All the domestic and international flight services from Kochi stand cancelled except some that were rescheduled and diverted to neighbouring airports as decided by airlines.

“All Air India flights to and from Kochi will be operating from Thiruvananthapuram airport on August 10 and 11. Passengers who have booked tickets could use the same tickets to travel in Air India flight. Along with Air India, flights of Emirates and Gulf Air have been rescheduled to Thiruvananthapuram airport,” said a CIAL spokesperson. The spokesperson said the authorities have been pumping out water, but as Periyar is flowing full, water from Chengalthodu, the canal near the airport boundary, too has been spilling out.
