Customs seize foreign currency worth Rs 13.61 lakh from couple

Mangaluru: Customs officials at Kannur international airport with active assistance of CISF on Wednesday registered a case of smuggling of foreign currency against a man and his wife.
The accused – Abdulla Kuniyil, a native of Kuruvantheri, Kozhikode had tried to smuggle out 50,000 UAE Dirhams. His wife Aslami Abdulla had concealed 25,000 UAE Dirhams in her handbag. Total value of seized foreign currency amounts to Rs. 13.61 lakh.
In last 3 days, Customs officials have detected five cases of smuggling foreign currencies like UAE Dirhams, Saudi Riyals, US Dollars, Euros, totally valued at Rs 29.30 lakh.
