Kochi: Customs officials at Cochin International Airport Ltd (Cial) on Saturday arrested a Kozhikode native for smuggling 909g of gold in paste form from Sharjah. The arrested has been identified as Shajar Kamal. The yellow metal was found hidden in his luggage. Officials also seized 10 iphones, transported without paying tax, from him.
In another case, a Malappuram native was arrested by customs for smuggling 860g gold, which were in gold biscuit form. The arrested has been identified as Mohammed Abdul Rehman. He reached Kochi from Jeddah. The gold biscuits were hidden inside packets of tea leaves.
