Mohali: A total of 90 structures located within the notified area around the Chandigarh International Airport here have come under the radar of the district administration, which is all set to raze them down within a week.
These structures have come up after the cut-off date, March 3, 2011, which has been set by a special committee constituted in compliance with the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to look into the issue of structures that have come up within the prohibited area around the airbase.
Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said, “The demolition drive will start within a week. The survey by the GMADA has been completed and I have got the report.”
According to sources, in its recent survey, the GMADA identified a total of 314 buildings located in the prohibited area, of which 90 have come up after the cut-off date of March 3, 2011, while the number of structures that were built between 2008 and 2011 is 45. The survey showed that a total of 179 buildings came up in the area before 2008.
The special committee has accepted the opinion of the Advocate General that the structures in the vicinity of the airbase that were raised after the cut-off date (regardless of whether these were constructed with sanctioned building plans) are completely illegal and liable for demolition without compensation. The committee had met under the chairmanship of the Punjab Chief Secretary on July 30.
