Last year, around this time the trial landing was successfully done on the Kalaburagi airport runway and now with all works infrastructure works complete, the airport is ready for operations. “Kalaburagi airport is ready for operation. Waiting for tri-party agreement and other approvals, from various agencies. Airline operators under UDAN scheme are already identified.
The airport operator would be handled by Airports Authority of India and security will be provided by the state government,” tweeted Regional Commissioner, Kalaburagi Division, Subodh Yadav.
In January, the Kalaburagi airport featured among the 235 routes awarded by the Civil Aviation Ministry under the UDAN 3.0 or third round of the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS). The Kalaburagi airport had been awarded routes to Hindon, Tirupati and Bengaluru.
Ghodawat, Alliance Air, InterGlobe, Spicejet, Turbo Megha were among the selected airlines to operate under the UDAN scheme. Meanwhile, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has given the nod for a green field airport at Shivamogga at a cost of Rs 38 crore with a private airline expressing interest to operate flights from the airport.
