Mumbai: CBI arrests customs official at airport for taking bribe

Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested the appraising officer at air cargo section of Mumbai airport in Maharashtra while accepting Rs 10,000 bribe on Tuesday.

Accused SS Jha was working on duty drawback section of the cargo section of customs and he demanded the bribe from the complainant.
It was alleged that the customs had put IEC code of complainant under alert, because of which he was unable to export his consignment.

When the complainant approached Jha, he demanded Rs 20,000 bribe to permanently revoke the alert. After negotiation, he reduced the amount to Rs 10,000. Jha has also accepted Rs 5,000 bribe from the complainant on earlier occasion for lifting the alert temporary for 15 days enabling the complaint to export his consignments.
