Surat airport director suddenly transferred

Surat: The sudden transfer of Sanjay Kumar Panigrahi, who had been director of Surat airport for just 18 months by Airports Authority of India (AAI), took many people by surprise in the city.

The transfer order dated August 23 has names of two other officers, who have been posted out of their respective centres. Panigrahi, who is joint general manager/associate general manager level officer, has been shifted to central headquarters of western region, Mumbai. “The officers are required to assume charge of their duties at their respective place of posting on or before September 9, 2019,” the AAI order said. However, Panigrahi’s replacement has not been named yet.

Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industries’ airport committee chairman Manoj Singapuri said, “Use of social media has brought Surat airport where it is today. However, its misuse can hurt people. Who knows this transfer could be a fallout of that.”
