Ex-Jet woman staffer crowned Ironman

Bengaluru: A 36-year-old woman who lost her job after Jet Airways shut shop turned to crowdfunding to raise money to fulfil her dream of participating in the Ironman Triathlon in Copenhagen, one of the world's toughest one-day endurance event.
On August 18, Blossom Fernandez, the only Indian woman participant, successfully completed the race to clinch the Ironman title in 13 hours, 22 minutes and 50 seconds. Blossom had been training to become a triathlete for more than two years. She raised over Rs 2 lakh through a crowdfunding campaign on online platform Crowdera.
"I hadn't been paid salary since March and the last time I was on flight duty was in April. I had no income, my savings had depleted and there was no clarity whether I would get my dues. So I turned to crowdfunding to finance my dream," says Blossom, a resident of Kalyan Nagar. She swam a distance of 3.8km, cycled over 180km and ran for more than 42.2km to clinch the title.
