Flyers in Pune rue lack of direct connectivity to east

Pune: Ankit Kunal recently made a fervent plea to practically all domestic airlines on Twitter to start a flight from Pune to his hometown in Ranchi.

“Please start a direct flight to Ranchi from Pune. It is difficult for people staying here to fly home during festivals,” he said.
Several people hailing from cities in eastern India spend long hours travelling to and from the city due to lack of direct flight connectivity. There are four direct flights to Kolkata from Pune, but no direct connectivity to any other city in the east.
“Last month, while travelling from Ranchi to Pune, I had to run from terminal 2 of Delhi airport to terminal 1 as the time between the two connecting flights of IndiGo was very less,” Vishal Goswami, an IT professional in Pune, said. Until some months ago, the airport had direct connectivity with Patna, courtesy SpiceJet, but the flight was discontinued.
