KIA fastest-growing airport in the world

Bengaluru: With over 3.2 crore passengers passing through it in 2018, Kempegowda International Airport is the fastest-growing airport in the world, says the latest world traffic report published by Airports Council International (ACI) on Tuesday. KIA has registered a 29% growth in passenger traffic as compared to the previous year.

Apart from KIA, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad is another Indian airport which has made it to the list of top five fastest-growing airports. Hyderabad stands at the third place, after Antalya airport in Turkey, and precedes Vnukovo airport in the Russian Federation.

According to the report, a m ajority of the world's fastest growing airports in terms of passenger traffic are located in the Asia- Pacific region. In fact, 12 of 2018's 30 fastest-growing airports across the globe are either in China or India.

However, in terms of the total number of passengers carried and aircraft movements, New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport is the only one from India to have found a spot in the top 20 rankings. It has been ranked 12th in the number passengers (nearly 7 crore) carried in 2018 - it occupied the 16th spot in 2017 - and 13th in the number of aircraft movement (4.8 lakh), up from it's 21st rank in 2017.
