Long walk to parking area at city airport irks passengers

Visakhapatnam: Passengers arriving at the Visakhapatnam airport are having a tough time getting cabs or private vehicles as the parking lot of the airport is located at quite a distance from the arrival lounge of the terminal building. Troubles escalate when passengers have to carry heavy luggage in trollies.
Speaking about this regular problem, P Satynarayana, a frequent flier told TOI, “It gets really difficult to push the trolley from the terminal building to the parking area. En route, there is a point where we have to lift the trolley because of a boulevard midway which is at a higher level than the road.”

In a recent meeting of the airport advisory committee, airline representatives had taken up the issue. They requested airport officials to allow private vehicles and cabs into the bay located adjacent to the terminal building, which is used by departing passengers.

There are three bays at the airport that go to the terminal building. One of them is located right adjacent to the terminal building. The bay has a shade and is used only when it is raining. The second bay is located in front of the terminal building. There, passengers can get down from their vehicle and enter the airport. Airport officials allow only departing passengers to use this bay.
The third bay has a parking lot and arriving passengers can only oard their vehicles from this bay.
