Over a month past deadline, no sign of rain shelters at airport

Pune: The monsoon came, wreaked havoc and has since subsided, but the promise to install rain shelters for passengers at the pickup point remains on paper.
On July 17, TOI had reported that the officials at the airport expected the work to start in a few days and finish by the end of the month.
In a recent reply to a question on the project status, an airport official said, “A covered shed is being constructed in the area where passengers wait for the cabs and will be completed soon.”
However, a visit to the airport and the pickup point — the erstwhile Parking 2 — in the last week of August yielded no signs of installation work.
Flyers, already disgruntled with the decision to prohibit pickups outside the terminal, moving the pickup point to Parking 2, are extremely unhappy.
“It seems as though the airport officials have decided to take it easy, now that the frequency of rains has reduced,” frequent flyer Gaurav Kundra said, adding, “The whole idea of changing the whole plan and jumping into something new has been done without any planning.”
