Patna airport sees 11.8% rise in traffic

Patna: The city airport has registered an impressive 11.8% growth in domestic traffic in the April to July quarter this fiscal over the corresponding period last year.
The Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport maintained its double-digit passenger growth recording a footfall of over 15.3 lakh flyers between April and July this year as compared to the previous year’s figure of 13.7 lakh, according to the latest figures released by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
The city airport, which is ranked 32nd in the country in terms of passenger growth, saw over 40.6 lakh flyers in 2018-19, which is projected to surge to 44 lakh in the current fiscal. The number of flights operating from Patna has also increased from 9,575 in 2018 (between April and July) to 10,111 in same period this fiscal.

Sources at Patna airport attributed the reason behind continuous rise in the number of passengers to cheaper airfare as well as less number of airports in the state. “Low airfare has reflected in the growth of passenger traffic in the city with more people opting to fly,” the source said.

Currently, Patna airport is handling 48 daily flights, of which 21 are to New Delhi, six each to Kolkata, Mumbai and Bengaluru, four to Hyderabad, three to Ranchi, two to Lucknow and one each to Chennai and Ahmedabad.
